The Sack of Balbriggan, 21 September 1920

The Sack of Balbriggan, 21 September 1920. The town was destroyed when a group of Black and Tans from Gormanstown Military Barracks carried out a reprisal burning for the IRA killing of two policemen. Women pushing pram loads of clothing, retrieved from their burned houses, to take to relatives or friends elsewhere. The destruction of the town captured international attention.
