OnSight 2024/25

How objects are understood by the visitor to a museum is often through the labels and panels that accompany them. These texts are based in part on the museum catalogue. Separated also by the physical distance between visitor and object, the experience and understanding about the history of the objects on display can be partial.
As part of the long-running OnSight project, we invited three poets in 2024 to explore the Irish Folklife exhibition galleries in Turlough Park. They were asked to select objects of their own choosing and to create new works of poetry. These would enhance the visitor experience, offering new perspectives and perhaps, new ways of looking at the objects on exhibit.
A poetry trail followed from this, opening for National Poetry Day 2025. Please see below for the texts of these poems and readings of them by their authors, Sean Borodale, Martina Evans and Geraldine Mitchell.
