Irish Design Week - Lunchtime Tour - The Making of Beautiful Things: Irish Design in the Museum

As part of Irish Design Week, some of the highlights and hidden treasures of the Museum’s historic and contemporary design collections will be showcased in a special tour.

The Making of Beautiful Things will present the history of design and crafts in Ireland through a series of remarkable objects in a variety of media and styles.

Featured makers will include John ffrench, Harry Clarke, and the Dun Emer Guild. You will discover a ruby decanter produced by the last active glassmakers in Ireland, a brass armillary sphere made when Dublin was a centre for scientific instrument production, and a display of traditional chair types demonstrating vernacular craft techniques, among many other remarkable works.

The Making of Beautiful Things: Irish Design in the National Museum - Design & Crafts Council Ireland   

The tour will begin at 1pm in Reception at Collins Barracks. No booking is required, but places are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
