Poetry Day Ireland - Poetry trail launch
Admission free
Celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday, 1 May 2025, with the launch of a new poetry trail, a panel discussion and poetry readings at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar.
The National Museum of Ireland and Mayo County Council Arts Service, supported by Poetry Ireland, are excited to mark Poetry Day with the launch of OnSight 2024/25: Silent Objects/Spoken Lives.
Three poets, Geraldine Mitchell, Martina Evans and Sean Borodale, have been invited to engage with artefacts from the Irish Folklife Collection at the National Museum in Turlough Park. The commissioned poets were asked to explore how the layers of an artefact's character and context, which are sometimes lost when they go on display, can be restored through poetry.
At 12.30pm, on 1 May 2025, the resulting poetry trail will be launched with light refreshments, a panel discussion and readings from the three poets.
OnSight is a partnership initiative between Mayo County Council Arts Service and the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park. The project is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Poetry Ireland.

This is a free event at 12.30pm on Poetry Day - 1 May 2025. Admission is free but booking is advised via Eventbrite or by telephone to +353 94 906 4086.
