DEMONSTRATION: Heard it on the Grapevine
Free Admission | Booking Required
The grapevine at Turlough Park was planted in 1865 by the Fitzgerald family and continues to produce grapes today. This year it will celebrate its 160th year.
Join Andrew Watson, Viticulturist, as he discusses the history of the Turlough Park vine, the Foster's Seedling grapes which it produces and its life cycle. This is a unique opportunity to learn about an ancient vine, a rare grape and to gain some skills as participants can also prune the vine with guidance from Andrew.
Typically, the Foster's Seedling grapes which grow on this vine would have been used as decorative addition to a table or as a dessert grape. It may also have been used in wine-making.
This is the first in a number of events taking place in 2025 which look at the life cycle of the vine at Turlough Park. Why not take this opportunity to visit Turlough Park and learn more about this unique vine.
This is a free event, suitable for adults but BOOKING IS REQUIRED as spaces are limited. Email BookingsCountryLife@museum.ie or telephone the Bookings Office on +353 94 90 31751.
Please note participants must bring their own vine pruning shears and eye protection googles.
