Heritage Week Outreach: Aonach na nDéise - Woodstown Viking Site Heritage Festival, Co. Waterford

This Heritage Week, the Education and Outreach Department from NMI – Archaeology will be bringing the Viking Handling Collection down to Waterford to take part in the Áonach na nDéise - Woodstown Viking Heritage Festival. There, they will be joined by Déise Medieval, Waterford City and County Council, SETU, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, TVAS Archaeology, Abarta Heritage and The Discovery Programme, for a fun filled Viking Day!  

Bring a family picnic and enjoy kiddie viking games, battle re-enactments and browse the Viking Craft Village. Try the Viking Artefact Challenge with the Education Department from the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, where you will have a chance to try the Museum’s hands-on activity ‘Viking Artefact Detective’ in which people will explore replica Viking objects to figure out what they were, how they were used, and how they were made. Take part in 'Dig in a Box' with TVAS Archaeologists, hear about recent survey work by the Discovery Programme and future plans for the Viking site. Birds of Prey, Viking Boat, and play area, fun for all the family.
