HIGHLIGHT PROJECT: Samhain 2014: shadows, sounds & stories.

Samhain 2014: shadows, sounds & stories.

In Autumn 2014, people over the age of 50 were invited to take part in a rich, collaborative series of creative workshops inspired by the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Held across three locations, Dublin, Mayo and Belfast, participants engaged with artists through music, creative writing, and photography. Their inspiration came from the collections of the National Museum of Ireland and the Ulster Museum. Each group explored a different art form: music composition with Elaine Agnew in Dublin, poetry and storytelling with Terry McDonagh in Mayo, and photography with Belfast Exposed in Belfast.

The Samhain project offered a meaningful space for older people to reflect, express, and create through the lens of tradition, memory, and seasonal change. Samhain 2014 was a collaborative initiative between the National Museum of Ireland, Age & Opportunity, and Poetry Ireland, with generous support from a range of cultural and government partners.
