This lantern was made for the Museum in 1960, and the maker is recorded as Mike Maughan, of the Gort-Headford-Tuam district. Mike Maughan said it was used for making tea.
It is 15.5 cm high, 12 cm in bottom diameter and 9.5 cm in top diameter. A spout of triangular plan is soldered to the side, the wall of the vessel being punched with a series of holes to form a strainer. To the side opposite the spout is fixed a handle and the handle is secured by two rivets above and one below. A thumb-rest made by a coiled strip sits at the top of the handle.
The can has a fitted lid with a small ring-handle on top.
