Our Irish Chair - ATU Connemara project
Second year students of the Furniture Design and Manufacture programme at the National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology, ATU Connemara, undertook a live project in collaboration with the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life and the Office of Public Works. Their brief was to reimagine a chair known as the Sligo Chair or Tuam Chair, based on examples in the National Collection, and to consider its place in the home of the 2020s. A selection of these chairs were chosen to go on display as part of the temporary exhibition Our Irish Chair: Tradition Revisited.
