Phased reopening of the National Museum of Ireland from 29 June

Following a health and safety audit of our four sites, the National Museum of Ireland is pleased to announce that it will begin a phased reopening to the public from 29 June.

We look forward to welcoming our visitors back to our Museum sites on the following dates:

  • 29 June 2020: National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin 7

  • 29 June 2020: National Museum of Ireland -  Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo

  • 20 July 2020: National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology, Kildare Street, Dubin 2

  • 20 July 2020: National Museum of Ireland - Natural History, Merrion Street, Dublin 2 (booking required)

The NMI has introduced a range of new measures to ensure the visitor experience is as safe and enjoyable as possible. The new measures include managing visitor numbers, physical distancing signage throughout the public spaces, one-way systems in the exhibition galleries and enhanced cleaning regimes.

We will be implementing a queuing system at both of our Museum sites that are re-opening on 29 June.

Find out more about these changes ahead of your visit.

Director of the National Museum of Ireland, Lynn Scarff, noted:

It will be wonderful to welcome visitors back to our Museums on a phased basis from 29 June. Our collections come to life when our visitors engage with them and while the experience will be a little different to before, we hope our visitors will delve into the full sensory experience of a Museum visit in a safe and enjoyable way. We are encouraging visitors to visit museum.ie to find out more about the new measures in place and also to avail of a variety of online resources from our Museum at Home experience to complement their visit.”

Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and Sunday to Monday, 1pm to 5pm.

Admission to all sites is free.
