Online Activity: February Feathered Friends
Free
Birds are one of the most muscial creatures on our island - but do you know which bird sings what song? Join our Museum Educator as she introduces you to our feathered friends and their unique songs. How many will you hear on your next walk?
Birdsong Challenge 1: Robin
Robins are very territorial birds and both males and females will protect the area that they live in year round. This is why you will hear robins singing at all times of the year!Birdsong Challenge 2: Blackbird
Did you know not all blackbirds are black? Only male blackbirds are black, the females are brown so that they can better camouflage themselves when sitting on their nests.Birdsong Challenge 3: Great Tit
You can spot these small birds by their balck cap and white cheek pouches. They also have a black line down their chest - the bigger this is the tougher the bird!Birdsong Challenge 4: Chaffinch
These birds are the most common kind of finch in Ireland. You'll be able to spot the males by their orange-red belly, though females have a duller colour.Birdsong 5: The Blue Tit
These birds are the smallest of our feathered friends in the challenge but don't let their tiny size fool you! These birds are well able to defend themselves and they look fabulous doing it with their yellow green front and bright blue cap.Got a question? We'd love to help
