Watch Back: Getting into the Spirit of Things

Free

A rare fish specimen from the HMS Challenger Expedition, preserved in the Museum's spirit collection.

This November, get into the spirit of Winter in Dublin with one of our online curator talks with the NMI - Natural History.

Join Dr Amy Geraghty as she explores the Museum's spirit collections in this online talk. A spirit collection refers to natural history collections that are kept in alcohol or liquid in order to preserve them. Discover the importantance of these collections in scientific research, the science behind stopping decay and how the Museum cares for 30,000 of these objects.

This video was first recorded in 2021 as part of the Tales of the Decant Talks Series which were filmed after the initial Museum decant in 2020.
