Large, unusual or deformed zoological specimens were previously classified as monsters. The term derives from the Latin to demonstrate or to warn. The talk will cover the a little of the history of this term and touch on some unusual specimens in the collection. The importance of collecting, maintaining and studying unusual specimens will also be covered. Examples of how Natural History Collections can contribute to the study of diseases and environmental impacts will be given.
