Summer Online Activities with the NMI - Natural History

Summer is in session and while you may be ready to go outside and play ball, the weather may not. Especially for those rainy summer days, the National Museum of Ireland - Natural History has put together a range of fun activities that can all be done from the comfort of your own home.

Hide & Seek

Summer is the time when all the plants come back to life after the winter. This means that there are lots of fantastic places for animals to hide. Some animals are specially adapted to make it easier for them to hide in their natural environment or habitat. We call this camouflage. Watch the two videos below if you're feeling curious about camouflage and want to know how to hide!

Pasta Predators and Other Activities

Now that you're clued in about camouflage, have a go playing our Pasta Predators game. See how many pasta caterpillars you can find before time runs out. Instructions for how to play are below along with two terrific activity sheets themed around camouflage.

Crafty Camouflage

Now you know all about camouflage, it's time to get crafty and try to make some of your own. What animal will be your inspiration? Perhaps it will be one of the marvelous moths we can see during the long evenings at this time of year!
Join Jo from REcreate Ireland as she shows you how to make some crafty camouflage.
