QUIET HOUR: Sensory Friendly Hour at the Museum
Admission Free | No Booking Required
Take some time to explore the Irish Folklife Collection during a dedicated Quiet Hour.
Museums can be busy and loud and therefore a stressful environment for people with additional needs and sensory requirements. We are offering a designated quiet hour to provide a calmer environment for visitors with Autism Spectrum Conditions, sensory and communication disorders, or learning disabilities. This hour is also beneficial for individuals with hidden disabilities and those who prefer a more flexible visit.
During this quiet hour, background music is reduced or turned off, and lighting in the Galleries are dimmed to create a more soothing atmosphere.
Although we do not have designated quiet spaces, visitors can access the grounds of Turlough Park and can check quieter areas from visual guides within the Museum if they need a break from sensory stimuli.
Please bring along any PPE that you want e.g. sunglasses, headphones, etc.
Synge & Byrne Café at Turlough Park will also host a designated Quiet Hour on Saturday, April 12, from 10am to 11am, with reduced noise, lighting, and music to create a calmer and more relaxing environment.
Download our sensory maps and visual guides from our website to help you prepare for your visit and know what to expect upon arrival. You can download them here.
Please note this is a pilot event. If you have any recommendations following your visit, please email BookingsCountryLife@museum.ie with your comments. Thank you.
