The National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park is inviting young visitors to take on the ‘Museum Seekers’ challenge over the Midterm school break. This fun trail is available from 17 to 23 February.

Pick up a ‘passport’ at Museum Reception and complete five activities to get a stamp on each page and finish the challenge. This is an ideal family outing for the midterm break (allow 1.5 to two hours to complete the full challenge or do it over a few visits).

This is a self-guided activity, meaning there are no instructors or set times. Simply come along during Museum opening hours and do each activity at your own pace.

Admission is free and no booking is required.

Find out more each of the five activities below:

1. Dress-up for a selfie

What did children wear 100 years ago? Go the dress-up station to try on our clothes from times gone by. Get a fun selfie while you are here.

2. Simple weaving fun

Visit the Education Room on Level C to try your hand at a simple weaving craft, inspired by folk traditions from the past.

3. A real-life badger

They are one of our most distinctive wild animals, but they are rarely seen! Take the opportunity to get up close to our real (taxidermy) badger as part of The Murmur of Bees exhibition on Level C. This striking specimen is on loan from the famous ‘Dead Zoo’ in Dublin. Look around the exhibition space to learn more about Irish bees. 

4. Children’s Corner

Have fun with our wooden jigsaws and bee-inspired colouring in the Children’s Corner overlooking the lake. Can you see the Round Tower on the hill? Draw a picture and add it to the wall.  

5. Mystery character

Search for our mystery character in the exhibition galleries. Look at the outline on your Museum Seekers challenge. Who do you think this is? See if you can find them and figure out their job.
