The Burning of Cork, 1920. Photograph shows the devastation of Patrick Street. The city centre was destroyed in the Black and Tan reprisal burnings on 11 & 12 December 1920, after an IRA ambush on an Auxiliary patrol. Firefighters stated that they were stopped from putting out the fires by the Black and Tans.
