Bullet proof window shield, RIC Barracks, Meath, 1920-1921

Bullet proof window shield, RIC Barracks, Meath, 1920-1921

IRA raids on police barracks generally involved a gun battle. This iron shutter was placed as a protective shield at the doors and windows at the RIC Barracks at The Ward on the Dublin – Meath border to protect the officers inside, while the hole in the shield still enabled them to shoot at their attackers.
