Demonstration grenade, IRA, 1921

Demonstration grenade, IRA, 1921

This hand grenade was used for demonstration purposes by the IRA in 1921 as an example of the construction and manufacture of the No.9 GHQ type, based on the British Mills pattern. A section is cut away to show the positions and working of the detonator and pin. The grenade was later mounted onto a pedestal, with the commemoration “IRA 1921”, in the munitions factory at Inchicore.
