The British withdraw, the Irish Free State Army takes over

The British Army in Ireland withdrew their forces in Ireland throughout 1922. The last garrison left on 6th December, when the Irish Free State was officially established. As the British troops left military barracks around the country, the Irish Free State Army marched in to formally take possession.
