State Executions

Many ex-comrades and friends were killed in battles and ambushes.  The Free State also introduced a policy of execution in November 1922, regarding the Anti-Treaty IRA as rebelling against the legitimate Provisional Government. More than 80 men were executed between 1922 and 1923, including some of the most notable leaders of the War of Independence.
