Philatelic and Postal History

Early Cape of Good Hope triangular stamp

The ‘Duke of Leinster’ bequest forms the core of the Philatelic and Postal History collection.

This collection consists of many thousands of pieces and is growing continuously with the acquisition of new stamps from around the world. It spans British and Irish philately and postal history and includes covers and proofs.

Of particular note is a series of British Departmental stamps in unique mint blocks of four, and an example of the Western Australian 4d. blue of 1854, the famous 'inverted swan’ stamp.

Of the remainder of the collection, the vast majority is made up of Irish and world stamps, sheets and first-day covers, issued by the Universal Postal Union.
